An old modal filter that allows walking and cycling, but not driving.

New cycleway entrance in Haslingden.

New cycle route in Haslingden. A short section of the old footpath to the right has also been upgraded.

Reflectors mark the edge of the cycleway.

The newly restored former railway tunnel, with a great surface and interior lighting.

Superb new walking and cycling bridge installed to allow access to the former railway tunnel. One wooden bollard at the entrance, so anyone can get through. Excellent.

A superb sealed surface now exists north of Lumb Viaduct.

This was once a muddy slippery slope, now it's an all-weather sealed surface ideal for cycling.

Superb surface here and nice detail on the [presumed] footpath to the left.

Once only hikers and mountain bikers used this route. Now anyone can - even horse riders!

A vastly improved surface exists here now.

Don't enter the railway line to Accrington here - enter it further northwest! The path here is very narrow and unsuitable for cycling.

This is where the good parts of the cycleway start - south of this location, the surface is gravelly and not very good. It's perfectly ridable, just nowhere near as nice. And unfortunately it's full of silly barriers like this one.

Superb recycled rubber surface here. A little bit rippled but I'm not complaining.

It's easy to cycle through these bollards - unlike the old metal barriers south of here, which are extremely difficult to navigate.

Great surface on the former railway here. Just a shame that behind the photographer, the path turns up to the main road. It would be better if the route went behind the factory and onto Station Road.

Very picturesque views along the former railway here.

A view of the very tired old footbridge over the former railway.

Great surface on the cycleway here. Image taken from a dodgy old footbridge.

I'm not quite sure why the council didn't just build the track through the stone wall to the right, but perhaps something is needed to stop idiots parking on the pavement - like the van driver...

No silly barriers here, just sensible bollards and a visible change in surface to indicate that you're crossing a road.

Billiard-table smooth surface. Perfect.

This barrier is a little bit wide but most cyclists should be easily capable of getting around it. I would have preferred a removable bollard, since some people on unusual bikes, or disabled folk, might struggle here.

Superb surface here.

Good crossing point here, although the red surface is wearing quickly. Nice to see that the usual "krypton factor" barriers have not been used here, just plain bollards.

Great surface on this new cycleway.

The bridge isn't quite finished yet but it doesn't look to be far off done.

Newly restored tunnel. Amazing job.

Superb surface, tunnel reopened (although at the time of upload the bridge on the other end of the tunnel isn't quite finished), this is amazing work by the council.

The picture says it all. Superb.

One of two former railway tunnels that Lancashire County Council have reopened and converted into cycleways. This is absolutely excellent work. My only very minor concern is the risk of ice during winter.

A nice cycleway here, unfortunately it leads back onto the main road but not far after that you can get back onto the cycleway and use two former railway tunnels.

A nice cycleway parallel to Bacup Road. Unfortunately it ends not far past this point.

Welcome to the National Cycle Network. Please leave your bicycle at home and bring a helicopter! /edit - I believe this section is now being improved by Lancashire County Council.

A high quality restoration of the listed Lumb Viaduct.

Lumb viaduct restored, however the path linking up to route 6 is incomplete.

I was routed up here. I've changed it now to dirt path in openstreetmap.

Numerous potholes on my street have been reported to the council more than 2 months ago, but nothing has been done.
